I’m so fascinated with eyelash extensions. Whenever I see someone with bold, beautiful lashes I always try to play the “are those real or can I figure out who put them on?” game, endlessly scrolling through cute little Instagram videos of lash applications and before & after shots. I’m slightly obsessed.
I’ve been really thinking about getting them applied myself, so I’ve been comparing a lot of the good things and bad things about lash extensions so I thought it would be a fun little blog post to write them all down here. Plus, maybe it’ll help me decide what I want to do!
PRO: Makeup is TOTALLY optional
Ok, I love makeup. I think it’s a great way to express yourself and have fun, but I’m always late because I always do more than I have time for. With lash extensions, you look like you woke up practically ready to go! I feel like I would have to do my eyebrows to even them out, but imagine what you could do with all of that extra time! I might actually get around to styling my hair… or taking twenty more minutes to sleep.
CON: You’ll spend more effort on them than you EVER do on your own hair
Did you know lash experts say you have to brush these babies anywhere from 2 – 4 times a day?! To be completely honest, I don’t even remember the last time I gave my own head of hair that much love ( My hair isn’t easily tangled, for all of you guys out there who were freaking out because I don’t brush my hair lol ), not to mention the face that I’ll probably forget to do it. Also, say you’re out and about all day. Do you have to pack a spoolie and find a bathroom you can brush your lashes in??
PRO: Clumpy mascara? Never again.
There is NOTHING I hate more than spidery or clumpy lashes. Most of the time, I’m always throwing my mascara on at the last second and don’t have time to be too careful with it, which always ends up with mascara all over my lids and clumps I wouldn’t be able to fix short of taking everything off and starting again. I’m sure not everyone is as messy as I am with mascara, but for me, its a huge plus not to have to buy it or apply it every morning!
CON: Two hours. Every Two Weeks. Major $$$
This is definitely another complaint about the upkeep of these babies. A good lash application can take up to three hours for a full set, not to mention the fact that you’re supposed to come back in every two to three weeks to get them refiled. I’m not a big fan of doing nothing, and three hours in a chair where I can’t even open my eyes seems like torture! Not to mention that extensions are pretty pricy; anywhere from $180 to $400 for what I’m looking for, a volume set. Then you have to factor in refills every few weeks. Ugh.
PRO: You’ll literally look 100% more flawless in photos
Long lashes stand out and make your eyes really pop in pictures. I happen to have the lightest and straightest lashes EVER! I always feel the need to pop on falsies before I go anywhere to take fun pictures, but I never really wear them in my normal day-to-day life so when I’m tagged in random group photos I always look like a hairless potato ( I literally have one photo I untagged myself in due to the potato factor. Nobody will ever find the hideous picture. ). Having lashes all the time seems like such an amazing way to be photo ready any time instead of being like me and spending a few hours with some lash glue and a prayer that I won’t stab myself in the eye too many times.
CON: They can strain your lashes
dd In the world of lashes, your salon choice is everything. Pick the right salon and you’ll get beautiful lashes with no lasting effects, pick the wrong salon and you could be some of the few that have a horror story to tell about the damage badly applied lashes have done. Its a big decision to make! And I’m already indecisive about where I want to eat each day, don’t even get me started on how long I’ve been doing research on which place I should go to for my lashes!
These were just a few things I’ve been thinking about, so I wanted to share them with you guys and hopefully help out anyone whose thinking of trying out lash extensions too! They look amazing, but there are always those irritating details you don’t like lol When or if I get the volume set I’ve been thinking about I really want to do some updates for you guys too!
Would you ever try lash extensions? Why or why not? I’d love to hear what you think in the comments!
